Sun Valley Film Festival
We returned this week to Idaho -- the first time since wrapping our shoot there-- for the second festival screening of 'Gaucho del Norte' at the Sun Valley Film Festival. It was a treat to play the film for an audience who understand aspects of it that may otherwise go uncommented on in other venues. In fact, there were ranchers with running sheep operations in the audience!Amongst other points of discussion in our 30 minute Q&A were the pay scales of the immigrant sheepherders and a debate over whether there are Americans who would do this job, the question of whether coyotes should be allowed to be hunted on public land, and some of the finer points about how the sheep are raised. It meant a lot to hear from one rancher in particular, also a notable Idaho politician, who said that we did a good job of showing the industry from both sides. After the screening, we enjoyed a long soak in nearby hot springs.
