Swet Shop Boys – T5

The first of two music videos for the Swet Shop Boys made by Capital K Pictures, directed by Sofian Khan, Terminal 5 is a surreal journey through airport security with the rap duo of Riz Ahmed and Himanshu Suri.

A lifetime of traveling in brown skin and with a Muslim name have taught Riz Ahmed to expect the indignity of being racially profiled. At borders and airports, immigration officers see a potential terrorist where there’s an actor. For years, casting directors did much the same, typecasting him as a jihadi or a cab driver or some other racial stereotype.

The video was Executive Produced by Joseph Patel, then at The Fader Magazine, and was shot at Vigilant Studios in Flushing. Sofian teamed with DP Bob Blankemeier to create the muted airport look, with splashes of vivid color in the performance shots and dreamlike interludes interspersed throughout.
