'Fifth Avenue' Online Premiere on The Wire

A short film I made based on my friend Hasan Mujtaba's poem "Fifth Avenue" made its online premiere today on the Indian news site The Wire.  It was a very fulfilling summer side project on which I had the pleasure to work with a great team -- including my DP Bob Blankemeier, who provided some stunning visuals (with additional images from Pakistan captured by Madiha Aijaz).  The wonderful percussion and trumpet soundtrack was created by Joshua Green and mixed by Evan Manners, who also recorded the location sound.  Arik Hartman was our Ginsberg lookalike, made credible thanks to the makeup skills of Jackie Push.  The animation & compositing work was done by Will Clark.  Annie Ali Khan provided the translation for the piece, and the more detailed translation posted on The Wire was thanks to Manan Ahmed.  We must also thank Siddharth Varadarajan, the editor of The Wire, for taking an interest and posting the video.  And, finally, of course to Hasan himself for creating this beautiful poem that provided the inspiration for this video to be created in the first place. You can read the piece and watch the video at -- http://thewire.in/2015/09/14/video-seeing-the-universe-in-the-sands-of-fifth-avenue-10672/Fifth_Avenue_SofianKhan Fifth_Avenue_SofianKhan2 Fifth_Avenue_SofianKhan3 thewire
