Naked Ambition

This was the first documentary project from Capital K Pictures and director Sofian Khan. Taking on a subject close to home in New York City’s Times Square, it’s a portrait of an unusual lifestyle choice.

The Naked Cowboy has managed to capture a place in pop culture through sheer force of will, coming day in and day out to the same spot to strum on his guitar in his underpants. 

Around the time we made the film, he had a new companion, his then girlfriend Cindy Fox donning her American flag bikini to join him in the wintry conditions. 

The piece originally premiered online at The Atlantic, and was acquired by the Documentary Channel. It was later broadcast in a shortened form on PBS Thirteen WNET (which is the version that’s now online, at just under 7 minutes). 

It was a great learning experience, making this piece. Looking back, it’s pretty rough around the edges, but helped to start the ball rolling on new, more… ambitious… projects. Watch the full film here:
